Raffles Institution (RI)
“Raffles Institution has a famous founder. It is the school with the longest history. It has the best resources in buildings, playing field, equipment. It has the best teachers. Most important of all, it has the best students.”
Mr Lee Kuan Yew,
RI Alumnus & the First Prime Minister of Singapore,
in Foreword of The Eagle Breeds a Gryphon (2nd ed.)
Raffles Institution is an independent school in Singapore offering the Integrated Programme for exceptionally gifted and talented boys (aged 13 to 18) and girls (aged 17 to 18). Founded in 1823 by Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, it is Singapore’s oldest school and shares the same founder as that of its country. But for reasons far more important than its age and founding father, Raffles Institution is most well-known for its long tradition of excellence and scholarship. It is where Singapore turns to for outstanding leaders in diverse fields. It is also the place from which fine men and women will continue to come forth to be our country’s Hope of a Better Age or Auspicium Melioris Aevi which is our school motto in Latin.

Raffles Girls' School (RGS)
Since its inception in 1879, RGS has become the embodiment of excellence, spirit, and innovation in education. RGS is where Singapore looks to for fine woman leaders in diverse fields; it is also where we continue to nurture distinctive young women who will continue to live the legacy built up by many generations of RGS students and seek, in their own ways, to leave a rich legacy of their own. In keeping with our motto, Daughters of a Better Age, here in RGS, we nurture our girls not only to make their mark, but also to make a difference.
