Acceptable Age Range of Students Seeking Admission to Year 1 or 3 in 2011:

Level

Acceptable Age Range (Based on student’s year of birth)

Year 1

13 - 15 years old (Born between 1996 and 1998)

Year 3

15 - 17 years old (Born between 1994 and 1996)

Please note: there is no intake of students for Year 2 and Year 4

Admissions Criteria for Year 1 at RGS or RI

Basic Requirements:

  1. For students studying in local Primary Schools (Government and Government-aided)
  2. Achievements in the talent area applied for; and/or
  3. Outstanding academic performance in Primary School.

In addition, students may be required to:

  1. Sit for a General Ability Test;
  2. Attend sports trials/auditions/half-day selection tests; and
  3. Be interviewed by a panel of interviewers.

Students with Special Talents
For admissions to Year 1 at RGS or RI based on Special Talents, students must demonstrate talent in either:

  1. Sports or
  2. Music or Visual Arts (Drawing, Painting, Sculpture) or
  3. Academic Domain (Mathematics or Science or English or Mother Tongue Language)

Criteria for the Admissions of Students with Special Talents

Demonstrate interest and talent in Maths or Science or English or Mother Tongue Language beyond the abilities
of children in your age group.

Have a history of consistently high academic achievement.
     

Music or Visual Art (SAP)

Demonstrate interest and talent in Music or Visual Arts beyond the abilities of children in the same age group.
For Music, have achieved at least Grade 5 Theory and Grade 7 Practical (Distinction or equivalent).

Have a history of accomplished performance in Music or Visual Arts at the national and/or international level.
     

Sports

Demonstrate interest and talent in sports and games
beyond the abilities of children in the same age group.

Have a history of accomplished performance in sports and games at the national and/or international level.
     

Admissions Criteria for Year 3 at RGS or RI

Basic Requirements:

  1. PSLE Score of 250 and above*; and/or
  2. Outstanding academic performance in the Secondary 1-2 school examinations; and/or
  3. Excellent achievement in academic and co-curricular activities.

* Students who fail to meet this criterion but have performed extremely well at lower secondary school examinations may be short-listed.

In addition, students may be required to:

  1. Sit for a General Ability Test and Entrance Examinations (English Language, Mathematics and Science)
  2. Be interviewed by a panel of interviewers.
